Hosszu, Bard, DePaul And Oropesa Named USC Credit Union Student-Athletes Of The Week

Katinka Hosszu, Presley Bard and Lyndsay DePaul of the women's swimming and diving team and Ricky Oropesa of the baseball team were named the USC Credit Union Student-Athletes of the Week today (March 22) for the week of March 15-21. The sophomore Hosszu placed second in the 200y fly and set a new school record with a time of 1:52.52 at the NCAA Championships held at Purdue in West Lafayette, Ind. She also placed third in the 400y IM, seventh as part of the 800y free relay and sixth as part of the 400y medley relay. Bard, a junior, placed third in the 100y backstroke with a new school record of 51.89 at the NCAA Championships. She also placed fourth in the 200y backstroke, seventh as part of the 800y free relay and sixth as part of the 400y medley relay. The junior DePaul placed second in the 100y fly and broke her school record in the prelims with a time of 51.67 at the NCAA Championships. She also placed third in the 200y fly, seventh as part of the 800y free relay and sixth as part of the 400y medley relay. Oropesa, a sophomore first baseman, batted .467 and had a .600 on-base percentage for the week (7-for-15) with three home runs, seven RBI, six runs scored and five walks in USC's four games. He had a home run and three RBI in the 9-0 win at Hawai'i on March 15. He was 3-for-5 with a home run in the ninth and two RBI at Pacific on March 20 in a 6-5 loss. In the 15-9 series finale at Pacific, he was 1-for-2 with a home run, RBI, three runs scored and four walks. |
