Michelle Stein of the women's water polo team and Kevin Couture of the baseball team were named USC's Wells Fargo Student Athletes of the Week today (Feb. 23) for the week of Feb. 16-22.

Stein, a senior driver, helped lead USC to the title game at the UC Irvine Invitational with hat tricks in each game and then tallied two goals in the 12-11 overtime loss to No. 2 Stanford. In all, she scored 11 goals in the four games as USC defeated UCLA (8-7), UCSB (16-3) and ASU (13-4), before falling to Stanford. The win over defending NCAA champion UCLA snapped a 10-game losing streak to the Bruins dating back to 2006.

The junior right-handed pitcher Couture pitched 7.0 shutout innings in USC's 4-0 win at Long Beach State on Feb. 21. He allowed just two hits and one walk, while striking out a career-high 10 batters. The Trojans needed the strong effort as LBSU's pitcher matched Couture through seven innings, before USC erupted for four runs in the top of the 8th.
