    Vaioletama and Pollard Named USC Student-Athletes of the Week

    LOS ANGELES: Alexyz Vaioletama of the women's basketball team and Collin Pollard of the men's diving team were named the first USC Student-Athletes of the Year for 2014.

    USC WOMEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Alexyz Vaioletama, USC Women's Basketball Alexyz Vaioletama had a career-high 21 points and notched her second career double-double in an exciting game at No. 23 Arizona State. Vaioletama knocked down a 3-pointer with 1.5 seconds left in regulation to force overtime against the ranked Sun Devils - USC's first OT game of the year. Vaioletama also hauled in a career-high six steals in that road game. Two days later, Vaioletama was USC's leader once again, finishing as the only Trojan in double figures with a 16-point outing - including two 3-pointers - in USC's win at Arizona. The junior entered the road trip averaging 8.3 points per game, making this weekend's back-to-back double-digit games a clutch effort by Vaioletama. USC improves to 11-6 overall and 4-1 in Pac-12 play with this road split.

    USC MEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Collin Pollard, USC Men's Swimming and Diving Trojan sophomore Collin Pollard helped complete a USC sweep of the platform events at the 2014 Bruin Diving Invite on January 12. Pollard, who won the 3-meter and finished second on 1-meter, claimed the men's event with 738.65, well ahead of Utah's second-place finisher Jacob Crayne (622.95). He competed at the 2013 U.S. Diving Winter Nationals where he was a semifinalist on platform and a quarterfinalist on springboard. Pollard was one of the conference's top divers as a freshman, reaching the finals on all three boards at the Pac-12 Championships in 2013.
