In 1880, USC founders envisioned an on-campus arena to further unify the Trojan community and on Oct. 12, 2006, that dream finally became reality with the opening of Galen Center - the new home for the USC women's volleyball program.
A crowd of 5,000 fans witnessed the first-ever event as USC played Stanford.
The 255,000 square-foot arena features 10,258 seats and utilizes new locker rooms for the USC men's and women's volleyball and basketball programs as well as a weight room and medical training room. An attached 45,000 square-foot pavilion will contain additional practice room with three courts - along with space for coaches and administrative offices.
Galen Center will house the Athletic Department Hall of Fame as well as function rooms, a ticket office, concession stands and merchandise stores for visitors to the new complex.
Built with the entire community in mind, Galen Center will open its doors to youth and high school sporting events. Along with athletic events, the venue also will play host to concerts, commencement ceremonies, community events, lectures, meetings, shows, pageants and more.
