Claes and Hughes, who were key in leading USC to its third straight national team title a week ago, topped teammates Terese Cannon and Nicolette Martin in an all-USC final in Hermosa Beach on Saturday.

Claes and Hughes had a busy weekend, participating in USC's student-athlete graduation ceremony in between matches. They beat pairs from Cal Poly, UCLA, St. Mary's, Florida State, LMU and Pepperdine to earn the opportunity to defend their 2015 AVCA title.

After dropping a close first set to USC's Cannon and Martin, Claes and Hughes -- nicknamed Cardinal and Gold for their respective red and blonde hair -- bounced back to win the second set, 21-13, and the tiebreak, 15-11.

Claes and Hughes finish their college careers as three-time national team champions, two-time national pairs champs, two-time Pac-12 pairs champs and owners of the longest winning streak in NCAA beach volleyball history (103 matches).

In four years, they racked up a 147-4 record as a duo and raised the level of competition across collegiate volleyball.
