CLAY-nfl.jpgThe first weekend of the NFL Playoffs is in the books, and at least one Trojan advanced to the next round in every game.

In the Raiders-Texans game, Trojan linebackers Brian Cushing and Malcolm Smith faced off against each other. Cushing racked up 4 tackles, including 1 TFL, and Smith posted 3 tackles, 1 TFL and 2 passes defended. The Texans advanced with a 27-14 win over the Raiders, who are coached by Jack Del Rio -- a Trojan football player from 1981-84.

Former USC head coach Pete Carroll, now the Seahawks head coach, guided his team to a 26-6 win over the Detroit Lions. Trojan linebacker Mike Morgan took 3 snaps on defense for the Seahawks and 5 snaps on special teams.

Two Trojan tight ends saw their teams duke it out in the Steelers' 30-12 win over the Dolphins. Miami's Jordan Cameron is on IR due to a concussion, but Xavier Grimble took two snaps on offense for the Black and Gold.

In the last game of the weekend, Packers linebackers Nick Perry and Clay Matthews topped Devon Kennard's Giants, 38-13. Kennard notched 1 defensive tackle and 1 special teams tackle. Perry mustered 1 QB hit, and Matthews had the defensive play of the game when he sacked NYG QB Eli Manning and forced a fumble, then raced after the ball for a fumble recovery. Matthews became the Packers' all-time postseason sack leader in the game.

Now, eight teams remain, and USC is represented on five of them.

Saturday at 1:35 p.m. PT, the Seahawks face the Trojan-less Falcons. At 5:15 p.m. that day, the Texans take on the Trojan-less Patriots. Sunday at 10:05 a.m. PT, the Steelers go up against the Chiefs, who have no Trojans. At 1:40 p.m. that day, five Trojans are in play when the Packers battle the Cowboys.
