Josh Shaw Admits to USC Officials That He Lied

Here is the official statement from the USC Athletic Department on Josh Shaw:

USC senior cornerback Josh Shaw came to USC athletic department officials this afternoon (Wednesday, Aug. 27) and admitted that he had lied about how he suffered his ankle injuries over the weekend.

He said that the story he told of rescuing his nephew in a pool in Palmdale, Calif., was a complete fabrication.  He apologized for misleading his coaches, teammates, athletic department officials and the public.

"We are extremely disappointed in Josh," said USC head football coach Steve Sarkisian.  "He let us all down.  As I have said, nothing in his background led us to doubt him when he told us of his injuries, nor did anything after our initial vetting of his story.

"I appreciate that Josh has now admitted that he lied and has apologized.  Although this type of behavior is out of character for Josh, it is unacceptable.  Honesty and integrity must be at the center of our program.  I believe Josh will learn from this. I hope that he will not be defined by this incident, and that the Trojan Family will accept his apology and support him."

Sarkisian said that Shaw has been suspended indefinitely from all team activities.

Shaw has retained Donald Etra as legal counsel.  Etra will issue a statement on Shaw's behalf soon.

USC regrets the posting of the initial story on Monday (Aug. 25).

We need to stop babying these College Athletes,As long as we keep letting them off with a slap on the wrist. They will continue to disappoint us. Start holding them accountable.

just goes to show the pressures put on these kids...if he didnt feel pressured he wouldnt have lied...blame the coaches and the schools for this one

What a jerk.

Where all the hero comments now, Trojan bums!

Where all ya fanboys now...he's a liar like most of you and should be suspended.

That's a dumb reason to let him go

Enserio? He admits a lie then is he suspended. What actually happened to suspend him? Is it based on the truth? There is a lot missing here.

Doesn't pay to lie. Free school not any more. Scholarship gone if ge had one. If he did he should pay it back.

This is Bull, but I bet another school will be happy to have him. I think he learned a lesson. Tjey could have bencjed him. I hope he is recruited

So does this mean Sarkisian is on the hot seat now? And he hasn't even coached his first game. I have this feeling Sark wanted to run with the story to create this positive PR for recruiting purposes but it has come to bite not just him but the whole university in the ass. Apparently there are school officials who were skeptical about this story and now saying, "Next time, you listen to us." Good job boys.

tom tessalone, are you ready to resign?

Go back to Washington Steve, we don't need your antics. Get out and stop coaching, you sly dog

Where is the USC PR department?? First letting our rivals dictate the Sanctions storyline, now this. WHO IS IN CHARGE OVER THERE!!!!

Shaw should be removed permanently from the football team.
NO MONEY should be spent to attend to Shaw's self inflicted injuries.
Scholarship should STOP NOW!

LIAR. LIAR. LIAR.

CAN NOT BE TRUSTED. JABOUT ANYTHING!

Is this his first screw up? Don't hammer him till we no everything.

Ok,he lied. Tell him you don't condone such behavior, then let him play. He only has to play ball. He is not a good spokes person. Don't let him speak.

All big-name universities have stuff that besmirch their reputations. Examples:
1. A very distinguished English professor at UCLA was just charged with a 'micro-aggression' (whatever that is) for giving well-deserved poor grades to some black 'students' who apparently didn't know the basics of grammar and spelling.
2. Stanford letting John McEnroe and Tiger Woods pose as students while honing their athletic skills.
3. UCLA - Jimmy Connors.

So, USC haters, make sure your own house is without hypocritical incident.

Heroically rescuing a nephew from drowning? No way! Running from LAPD after an alleged burglary? That's more like it!

My first thought is he is lying to protect the parents from CBS for not watching their child.

USC once a liar always a liar

People are so quick to judge, but do not wish to be judged..have some empathy and decide once all the facts are in..If the shoe fits, wear it..If not or it has nothing to do with your life or future, let it go!..everyone makes dumb and/or regrettable mistakes at one time or another..
