Lopes Back Where It Started

Lopes-Now.jpgUSC senior associate athletic director Steve Lopes is returning to his alma mater, Linfield College in McMinnville, Oregon, as Sunday's commencement speaker.

Lopes, who is in the Linfield Athletic Hall of Fame as an All-American offensive tackle on the 1982 NAIA national championship football team, is in the 30th year of a distinguished career at USC working his way from assistant strength coach to administrative assistant to business manager to finance director to assistant athletic director and now to his current role as COO and CFO.

Outside of his athletic department roles, Lopes is the executive director and program coordinator for the Sports Management Institute, a sports management executive education program that has trained more than 70 current or former intercollegiate athletic directors. He holds two Master's degrees from USC, one in physical education and sports administration, and the other in business administration.
