Legend of Troy: Don Winston

USC senior associate athletic director Don Winston is retiring after a distinguished 31-year career helping to raise more than half a billion dollars to fund scholarships and facilities for the athletic department.  For all his accomplishments and loyal service, Winston received the Legend of Troy award today at the USC Student-Athlete Graduation.

The master of development has been instrumental in raising funds to build USC's Galen Center, John McKay Center, Loker Track Stadium, Uytengsu Aquatics Center and Merle Norman Sand Volleyball Stadium.  Since he joined the department in 1983, the annual fundraising total has grown from $2 million per year to $35 million.

While Winston always referred to his work as "a labor of love", the entire athletic department and the Trojan Family thanks him for his efforts and wishes him nothing but the best in retirement.

Don and I were colleagues for several years and have remained in touch. In my judgment he is at the rare man who managed to find the perfect job and he has done it exceedingly well. He deserves all the recognition he has achieved. His contribution to USC athletics will never be equaled.
