For the second time in as many nights, Cristian Quintero sprinted to a Pac-12 title.  The Venezuelan Olympian doubled down on his win in the 800 free relay by defending his conference crown in the 500y free.

To do so, Quintero had to jet past freshman teammate Reed Malone who contributed to the winning relay the night before.  Malone pushed out to a lead in the 500y free only for Quintero to dramatically track him down in the final 50 yards.

"It was a strong evening for the Trojans," said head coach Dave Salo. "It was great going 1-2 in the 500, especially with the freshman Malone swimming a strong, patient swim against a vet like Cristian."

The Trojans are in third at the halfway point of the Pac-12 Men's Swimming and Diving Championships.  Here is Quintero's post-race interview:
