Back on Her Platform

Haley Ishimatsu is comfortable atop a platform either perfecting her dive or accepting her trophy.  The junior won the NCAA platform title yet again Saturday becoming the first back-to-back champion in the event since 1992-93.

"Haley had a great performance tonight," head diving coach Hongping Li. "It wasn't quite like her record-setting performance last year, but considering the facility issues we had, lack of training time and that she was battling injuries, what she accomplished today was amazing."

Ishimatsu tops the list of nine Trojans who earned All-American status at the NCAA Championships, including Kasey Carlson who competed in six finals at the meet.  As a team, the Women of Troy finished fifth overall.

Despite battling a persistent back injury and a shaky fourth dive, Ishimatsu left no doubt on her final attempt that she is still the queen of the platform.

"My fourth dive has always been a little bit shaky. It's not exactly very consistent. But that last dive, I knew I could do it well. It's a great finisher and I know I can do it. So, that was good," she said. "It feels great to be able to contribute so much to the team and to know that they support me and know that I can still support them."
