Early Season Drama

If the first series of the season is any indication, the Dedeaux Field groundskeepers will be put to the test this spring.  The Trojans worked overtime on Friday (11 innings) and Saturday (15 innings) to complete dramatic victories before sweeping the weekend set from Northwestern on Sunday (only 9 innings).

The three-game sweep featured several heroes, but the relief pitching was key providing 18.1 innings giving up only 2 runs.  In particular, Jeff Paschke and Nigel Nootbaar combined to throw 8 innings of shutout relief to extend Saturday's marathon.

In terms of walk-off heroes, Frankie Rios scored the winning run on a Northwestern error in the 11th on Friday, while freshman Joe Corrigan delivered the game-winning sacrifice fly to score Dante Flores on Saturday.  Sophomore A.J. Ramirez carried the offense on Sunday going 4-for-4 with 3 RBI, while Vahn Bozoian cracked the team's first homerun of the season.
