USC has accepted a bid to the Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl to take on No. 21 Fresno State on Saturday, December 21.  Under the leadership of interim head coach Clay Helton, the Trojans will face a stiff test in the Bulldogs, which finished 11-1 on the season narrowly missing out on a BCS game.

The Trojans will be taking on Fresno State in the front end of a back-to-back with the same two teams meeting to start the 2014 season at the Coliseum.  USC has met the Bulldogs twice before, losing in the 1992 Freedom Bowl and winning the 2005 Coliseum classic.

This will be USC's second time in the Las Vegas Bowl.  Troy fell to Utah, 10-6, in the 2001 game.

The Trojans will depart for Las Vegas on Wednesday, December 18.  They will practice four times next week with new head coach Steve Sarkisian overseeing practice, but Helton running the team.

"We are extremely excited to have been invited to participate in the Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl," said Helton.  "It is a tremendous honor and a great reward to our team and what they have been able to accomplish in the 2013 season.  We look forward to our trip to Las Vegas and the challenge of competing against one of the better teams in the country in Fresno State."

Bakersfield products Cody Kessler and Derek Carr will square off in the Las Vegas Bowl.
