All-American DL Shaun Cody was the blue chip recruit that launched the Pete Carroll era.  Just seven weeks on the job, Carroll was able to secure the 5-star signature, which helped put USC back on the recruiting map for the nation's elite.

Cody chose the Trojans over UCLA, Notre Dame and Washington.

"He's a defensive coach and I'm a defensive player, so I felt [USC] was best for me," Cody said at the time. "This was the hardest decision I made in my life. It came down to what I felt was a gut feeling. All four schools were probably in it to the end."

Cody would start eight games his first year earning Freshman All-American honors.  By the end of his Trojan career, he was a 2004 All-American, two-time All-Pac-10 First Team and a two-time national champion.
