Former USC women's basketball player Briana Gilbreath was drafted in the third round of the WNBA draft in 2012 and has spent the last two years proving she has what it takes to succeed at the next level. After a rookie season full of challenges, Gilbreath has earned herself a starting spot on the Phoenix Mercury and isn't taking a second of her basketball career for granted.

"Every day I step on the floor, I look at it as an amazing opportunity that I didn't have a year ago around this time," Gilbreath says. "Every day that I have with this team, in my eyes, is a blessing."

As a Trojan, Gilbreath was a dominant defensive force, winning all-conference awards in four consecutive seasons and three straight selections to the defensive honor roll. She ranks in the top-10 for USC in five categories including blocks, steals, rebounds, free throws made, and points. Gilbreath also holds the No. 8 all-time spot for most blocks in the Pac-12 conference.
