Meet Su'a Cravens

Cravens-Spring2-McG.jpgName: Su'a Cravens

Position: Safety

Class: Freshman

Size: 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds

Age: 17

High School: Vista Murrieta (Los Angeles)

Scouting Report: Cravens is a graceful athlete built in a different mold than the recent crop of star safeties at USC.  While he is tall, he is not as long as T.J. McDonald or Taylor Mays.  He glides around the field, but arrives violently when the ball is in his area.

Prep Career: As a versatile player, he was all over the field, playing DB, LB, WR and RB. He made 97 tackles as a senior while also accounting for 542 yards and 14 touchdowns on the other side of the ball. He was USA Today's All-USA Defensive Player of the Year, the Gatorade California Player of the Year, and a U.S. Army All-American.

Spring Ball: Cravens will be in the mix to earn a starting spot from day one.  New defensive coordinator Clancy Pendergast made it clear that he has no problem starting a true freshman if he is the best player at the spot.  Currently, Cravens is playing safety with the twos behind Josh Shaw and Demetrius Wright, but he has earned early praise from Lane Kiffin.

Josh Shaw on Cravens: "Su'a is living up to it by all means.  Su'a is a smart kid.  He catches up really fast in the meeting room and he translates it out here."

Here is Cravens in his own words with our Sarah Bergstrom...
