Going into the program's second season at USC, women's sand volleyball head coach Anna Biller Collier has secured the top signature in the sport with 2013-14 signee Sara Hughes, who has committed to the beach over indoor. The Mater Dei product is the cover girl for the most recent issue of Volleyball Magazine after being named Orange County Player of the Year.
At only 17, she has already finished fourth in the 2012 FIVB Junior World Championship and seventh in the NORCECA tour stop in Chula Vista with future USC teammate Kirby Burnham. Standing 5-foot-11, Hughes is considered undersized for indoor volleyball, so she will focus exclusively on the sand.
"Sara is regarded as the top sand volleyball recruit in the nation," said Collier. "She is very experienced and athletic for her age. She will be the foundation of our program in the coming years."
