The USC women's lacrosse team opened its inaugural season Saturday against two-time defending champions Northwestern at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
Freshman midfielder Amanda Johansen broke some ground by scoring the first goal in the history of the program. "It definitely, by far, is the coolest day of my life," Johansen said. She added a second goal and an assist.
"We are so appreciative of everybody that came out today and who have supported us. The administration and marketing team have put in so much time and effort to get the word out," said head coach Lindsey Munday. "I think that it is just exciting for the sport of lacrosse. Southern California is booming right now with lacrosse and we really want to be the school that girls look to and want to be at one day."
The inaugural game drew a crowd of 3,000 and was the first lacrosse game to ever be held at the Coliseum.
"It was so cool being out here because we were finally able to show what our lacrosse team has to offer," Johansen said. "We have awesome fans and they were here the whole game cheering for us"
