Voting closes this week! The final vote is very tight!!
USC LB Frankie Telfort never played a game for the Trojans in his four years due to a heart condition, but he also never stopped contributing to the program. For his effort and inspiration, Telfort was named a 2013 Rare Disease Champion finalist by Uplifting Athletes.
Vote for Frankie here from now until January 31!!
During his freshman physical, the highly-rated linebacker from Florida was diagnosed with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. The abnormality is potentially fatal if pushed by extreme physical exertion, so it ended his playing career immediately.
"I didn't even know at the time that my last high school football game was the last game I would ever play," Telfort told Uplifting Athletes. "I try to always tell my teammates to think about what they would do without football."
At last check, Telfort has not decided on his next step after graduation. He has designs on continuing to coach football and/or working in the medical profession.
