Lean and Mean

Without injured starters Christina Marinacci and Jordan Adams, Michael Cooper's undermanned team continues to thrive despite the heavy workload on a trimmed down rotation.  While USC women's basketball is coming off road losses to Cal and Stanford, the Women of Troy put up a great fight against two top 10 opponents, which should only boost their confidence.

The Trojans are now 4-2 in the Pac-12 with home dates against Arizona State (Friday at 7 p.m.) and Arizona (Sunday at 2 p.m.) due up this weekend.  Click here for tickets.

Up in the Bay Area, Cooper only used seven players in each game with Cassie Harberts and Alexyz Vaioletama carrying the heaviest load.  After playing more than 40 minutes in the overtime loss to the Bears, Harberts and Vaioletama played the full 40 against the Cardinal.

The rest of the rotation is mostly made up of Kate Oliver, Brianna Barrett, Ariya Crook and Kiki Alofaituli.  The role of the seventh woman was split between Deanna Calhoun (4 minutes vs. Cal) and Desiree Bradley (7 minutes vs. Stanford) on the trip.

For the time being, the Trojans are no worse for the wear.  The nine-point loss at Stanford was the first single-digit loss in Palo Alto since 2007, while a couple free throws could have sealed a major upset over No. 7 Cal.

After a quiet freshman season, Vaioletama is breaking out as a sophomore.
