USC women's basketball put its four game Pac-12 winning streak on the line last night at No. 7 Cal and nearly came out with a massive road victory. Instead, the Women of Troy took their first conference loss in an overtime thriller.

While the loss is a tough one to swallow, especially with No. 6 Stanford due up Sunday, Michael Cooper's team proved that its hot start in Pac-12 play is no fluke despite a spotty showing in the non-conference season. Playing shorthanded without injured captain Christina Marinacci and freshman PG Jordan Adams, Cooper leaned heavily on Cassie Harberts, Kate Oliver, Alexyz Vaioletama and Brianna Barrett, who all played over 40 minutes.
Just like the men, the end of regulation was heartbreaking for USC. The Trojans gave up a game-tying bucket to Gennifer Brandon, who finished the game with a ridiculous 22 points and 26 rebounds, after two missed free throws by Ariya Crook could have iced it.
The game at Stanford is on Pac-12 Networks this Sunday at 4 p.m. PT.
