WE PLAY 2012: Johnson and Men's Tennis

As we countdown to 2013, we're going to reveal the top five WE PLAY moments of the year.

No. 2 - Stevie Plays Perfection

Steve Johnson returned for his senior year with the expressed purpose to make history.  In the end, the collegiate tennis legend aced the record books.

He did not lose a singles match during his final season, so he ended his USC career having won 72 consecutive singles matches.  To that end, he repeated as the NCAA individual champion.

Even more, Johnson's brilliance fueled team success.  Alongside fellow senior captain Daniel Nguyen and head coach Peter Smith, he led the Trojans to a fourth consecutive national championship.

USC Athletics is the home of champions.  And within the Trojan walls, a friendly competition has broken out.  Each year, men's water polo wins the NCAA title in the fall and dares men's tennis to match the feat in the spring.  Johnson cannot do anything about a 5-peat, but as long as he had something to say about it, nobody played perfection quite like Stevie.
