WE PLAY 2012: 5-Peat

As we countdown to 2013, we're going to reveal the top five WE PLAY moments of the year.

No. 1 - Men's Water Polo's Drive for Five

On a seemingly scripted Sunday, USC men's water polo finished off its fifth consecutive national championship and a perfect 2012 season in cinematic fashion.

The match had everything that makes college athletics unique.  Two crosstown rivals playing for the biggest prize in front of a raucous crowd at the soon-to-be Uytengsu Aquatics Center.

USC came in as heavy favorites, but UCLA played with real belief.  The Bruins knew that if there was ever a year to end Jovan Vavic's reign, this was it.

Without Joel Dennerley's imposing presence in goal, UCLA picked on his successor James Clark to put USC in an early hole.  The newcomer to this stage settled down and the climb back began.

In the dying seconds of a deadlocked match, the movie called for an ending.  At the suggestion of senior Tobias Preuss, the Trojans called "Candy," a play that delivered sweet victory as Kostas Genidounias clinched the five-peat.

Perfection indeed...
