Drive for Five Complete

"What a game," Jovan Vavic exhaled.

Siri-Pinta-5Peat-McG.jpgThe now 11-time national champion head coach never doubted his men of Troy.  Despite a large early deficit (5-2 start for UCLA) and late drama, the wisdom of four consecutive NCAA titles paid off in a 5-peat.

In fact, Vavic deferred to senior Tobias Preuss who called the game-winning play during the final timeout with the match tied 10-10 and only 46 seconds to go.  "That last play was the play for the ages," said the head coach.

The Trojans call it "Candy," and it basically set a screen for Kostas Genidounias who took it from there.  "Kostas is the man," said Matt Burton, who delivered the assist.  "That kid just doesn't feel pressure.  He lives for that moment."

The Greek's goal gave USC an 11-10 lead and set-off a Trojan celebration inside the soon-to-be Uytengsu Aquatics Center.  Senior Michael Rosenthal, who had a hat trick, was named the NCAA Final Four MVP.

The perfect Trojans finished the season 29-0, but determination not dominance will be this team's trademark.  USC defeated national runner-up UCLA three times this season by a single goal.

Vavic has so much faith in his Trojans' ability to handle pressure that he has already thrown down the gauntlet for next season.  "We're going to win it again next year.  Write it down."
