Buffalo to Watch: Junior QB Jordan Webb

Webb-Doug-Pensinger-Getty.jpgThe Kansas transfer brings a ton of experience into the Coliseum.  He started 19 games for the Jayhawks before graduating to join Colorado for his final two seasons of eligibility.  While the Buffaloes have had a rough year, Webb sports a solid 8 TD/4 INT ratio.  In the one game CU did win, the quarterback led the way passing for 345 yards and accounting for 4 TDs (2 rush) en route to the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week award.

3 Keys

Record Breakers

With Robert Woods and Matt Barkley on the brink of historical career achievements, Lane Kiffin would love for the duo to celebrate in front of the home fans.  As long as he stays healthy, Woods is a near lock to reel in the five catches needed to eclipse the USC all-time mark.  Barkley is four touchdown passes shy of a Pac-12 record 100, so the senior will need to be pinpoint in the red zone in order to get it done at the Coliseum.

Hang Loose

Colorado has the worst pass defense in the conference and ranks 120 out of 124 teams nationally.  The Trojans have spent the last few weeks establishing a balanced attack, but the passing game lost its rhythm in Seattle.  Finally back at home, the offense can open up the playbook against the Buffaloes.  With Arizona and Oregon on deck, USC needs to remember how to post a big number.

Third downs and penalties... The head coach has targeted both as areas in major need of improvement.  In many cases, they go hand-in-hand.  The fewer offensive penalties will likely mean fewer third-and-longs, which will make them easier to convert.  LT Aundrey Walker has been a frequent culprit, so keep an eye on the competition as freshman LT Max Tuerk gets a chance to stabilize that side of the offensive line.

Matt Barkley broke the school record with six touchdown passes at Boulder last year.
