A Son's Gift

No. 1 USC men's water polo was pushed hard by No. 4 Cal Sunday at McDonald's Swim Stadium as the Trojans twice had to come back from second half deficits.  In the end, Nikola Vavic delivered his father Jovan's 400th men's win by netting the game-winner with less than two minutes to play.

Jovan Vavic, who is a 10-time National Coach of the Year, has an overall USC men's water polo record of 400-64 (.826), including a winning record against every Trojan opponent.  He has won seven men's national championships with the last four coming consecutively, plus USC is off to an undefeated (9-0) start in its drive for five.

Vavic has the pleasure of coaching both his son, Nikola, and daughter, Monica, on the USC men's and women's teams.  Father and son (pictured together) teamed up to make history Sunday.
