Woman Down, Man Up

USC women's soccer had lost its last three season openers and appeared to be headed to a similar fate when defender Kristina Noriega was sent off with a red card tied at 1-1 in the 77th minute.  Instead, the Women of Troy, buoyed by a lineup with seven new starters, found a burst of energy to reel off three goals in a 12 minute span en route to a 3-2 road win over Cal State Fullerton.

As a result, the Trojans are undefeated on the 2012-13 athletics' calendar with the first home test coming next Friday at McAlister Field against St. Mary's (3 p.m.).
