Long Live the Spaceman

USC baseball alum Bill "Spaceman" Lee is still defying time and convention at the age of 65.

The lefthander started a game for the San Rafael Pacifics of the independent North American League.  The idea was nothing more than a publicity stunt for the minor league team to showcase a local legend, who was famous for his pitching and notorious for his antics.

As it turned out, the craziest thing Lee did on the night was twirl a complete game victory.  Already the oldest pitcher to win a professional baseball game, he broke his own record in style and left every baseball fan with mouth agape.

"Honestly, this is one of the most amazing performances I've ever seen," Pacifics manager Mike Marshall, the former Dodgers outfielder/first baseman, told the San Jose Mercury News. "I can't believe what I just saw -- I'm like Jack Buck."

Using a repertoire of junk balls and slow heat, he gave up four runs on eight hits in nine unforgettable innings.
