In a surprise to some, USC was picked No. 3 in the preseason college football coaches' poll behind last year's BCS finalists LSU and Alabama. The Trojans did have the second most first place votes behind the defending national champion Crimson Tide, but the Tigers will start the season in the top spot.
Pac-12 rivals Oregon are picked to finish No. 5 in the country, while Stanford slots in at No. 18. Also on the Trojans schedule, Notre Dame is ranked No. 24, and Washington (No. 26) and Utah (No. 32) are just outside the rankings.
