Mitch Mustain's path to athletic stardom has been quite a bit windier than most Gatorade National Players of the Year.
The quarterback phenom was benched despite going undefeated at Arkansas before transferring to USC, where he started just one game in his Trojan career. After a short stint in minor league professional football, he is now using his blessed right arm to throw fastballs in the Chicago White Sox organization.

Mustain has made strong early strides on the mound despite not pitching since high school. He has already moved up a level to Kannapolis in the South Atlantic League, where he has a 1-0 record and a 4.91 ERA.
