Olympic Spotlight: Opening Weekend

The complete schedule of events for Trojan Olympians is on our London 2012 website, but here are the featured events for the weekend.  All the action will be streamed live on

Saturday, July 28

Katinka Hosszu, 400 IM - The preliminary heats begin at 3:17 a.m. pacific, but the finals will be live online at a more reasonable time (12:09 p.m. pt).  The recently graduated Hungarian is a threat to medal on the first day.

Amanda Weir, 400m Freestyle Relay - The veteran's only event of the Olympic Games is on day one.  She will compete in the first heat at 4:11 a.m. pacific and then the relay final is scheduled for 12:40 p.m. pt.

Nicole Davis, USA Volleyball - The indoor team gets its first action against South Korea to begin group play.  The match will be carried live on NBC at Noon pacific.

Sunday, July 29

Joel Dennerley, Australia Water Polo - The four-time NCAA champion will start in goal against Italy in Group A action (6:10 a.m. pt).  Dennerley's backup is incoming Trojan James Clark.

Donald Suxho, USA Volleyball - The men's indoor team plays its opener against Serbia at 8:45 a.m. pt live on NBC.

Jen Kessy/April Ross, USA Beach Volleyball - The dynamic duo hits the sand in front of Buckingham Palace with a 1 p.m. pt dual against Argentine pair Zonta and Gallay.  The match will be carried live on NBC.
