Olympic Spotlight: Olympic Factory

While the Opening Ceremonies are Friday, technically, the Olympics started today with women's soccer, including Team USA defeating France 4-2 with USC alum Amy Rodriguez contributing as a substitute.

Rodriguez is one of 39 Trojan Olympians representing 18 countries in six different sports at London 2012.  USC has earned a reputation as an Olympic factory over the years by sending more athletes to the Summer Games than any other collegiate institution.

"We have great weather and a great geographic base in terms of recruiting," Athletic Director Pat Haden told Jon Finkel.  "You add together the climate, a great academic institution like USC and Southern California's love for Olympic sports and you have a perfect trifecta."

The USC London Alumni Club held a function last night to celebrate the 2012 Trojan Olympians (pictured).  The list of distinguished attendees included Jesse Williams, Duane Solomon, April Ross, Jenn Kessy, Nicole Davis, Donald Suxho and Carol Rodriguez plus coaches Dave Salo and Ron Allice.
