Olympic Spotlight: Golden Century

Lefert-Gold.jpgIn a reversal of the famous 2008 race in Beijing, France chased down the U.S. in the men's 4x100m freestyle relay with the help of USC's Clement Lefert, who swam a powerful third leg in the final.  Thanks to Lefert, a Trojan has now won a gold medal in every Summer Olympics for a century (1912-2012).

In the same race, Vladimir Morozov led Russia to a spot on the medal stand with a third place finish.  After two full days of London 2012, Trojans have won one gold and two bronze medals (all in swimming).

USC volleyball alums Jennifer Kessy and April Ross made their Olympic debuts on the sand today.  Amid chilly temperatures, the dynamic duo made short work of their Argentine opponents winning in two sets.

On the indoor volleyball court, Donald Suxho contributed to a USA men's team sweep of Serbia to begin group play.

Mixed results in the men's water polo tournament, Shea Buckner and Team USA squeaked by Montenegro 8-7, but Joel Dennerley and the Aussie Sharks lost 8-5 to Italy.

Monday's highlights: Rebecca Soni is seeded second in the women's 100m breaststroke final at 12:15 p.m. pacific.  You can watch it live online during the day or taped delayed on NBC primetime.

Also, the women's water polo tournament, which features six Trojans, gets underway.  Team USA takes on Hungary at 11:40 a.m. pt.
