Senior DE Devon Kennard underwent successful surgery today to repair a torn muscle in his chest. He suffered the injury during a weight training session last week.
There is no timetable for his return.
Kennard was projected as a starter on the 2012 team. Both he and Wes Horton made the Ted Hendricks Award Watch List.
Without Kennard, defensive line coach Ed Orgeron will turn to a group of inexperienced, but talented reserves led by redshirt freshman Greg Townsend Jr., senior Kevin Greene and junior college transfer Morgan Breslin. As part of the incoming freshman class, Florida product Leonard Williams is the most likely to compete for playing time at defensive end immediately.
Fall camp begins August 6.
