Legendary Leslie

Just a day away from the 40th anniversary of Title IX, ESPNW completed its countdown of the 40 greatest female athletes of the last 40 years with soccer star Mia Hamm at No. 1.

Leslie-Dunk-SI.jpgUSC women's basketball great Lisa Leslie was the highest ranked Trojan at No. 5.  The three-time All-American, four-time Olympic gold medalist and three-time WNBA MVP knows how to pack a trophy case.

"Once I realized you get a trophy if you win, I thought, this is awesome!" Leslie told ESPN. "I got so many, I could fill my house with them. But the rewards are having the opportunity to be a role model, to travel the world. It was an honor to play this sport."

Leslie proved that women could do anything men could do on a basketball court.  The 6'5" physical specimen was the first women ever to dunk in a WNBA game.

In the words of USA Basketball teammate Dawn Staley, "Lisa is the best who's played the women's game."
