USC freshman golfer Doris Chen won the Pac-12 individual championship and led the Women of Troy to a second place finish in the conference.  Following in Sophia Popov's footsteps, Chen became the second consecutive Trojan freshman to win the conference crown.

In chilly Pullman, WA, Chen (photo via Pac-12) snatched the title by closing her final round with a string of five birdies in seven holes.  She carded a trophy-raising 68, which is her second best round at USC.

As for the team, Andrea Gaston's squad came up a stroke short of forcing a playoff with Cal.  The Trojans admirably defended their conference crown, but could not get the crucial putts to drop.

"We were very close," said Gaston.  "We had some great birdies down the home stretch and a couple of close birdie putts on the last hole that didn't drop. Over the course of three days, this just shows you how every putt counts."

While Cal won the Pac-12 team title, USC finished ahead of UCLA thus banking five more points in the Gauntlet standings.
