Twice the Relief

USC baseball gutted out another win last night topping UC Irvine 5-4 on the road.  The Trojans were able to make big hits by Garrett Stubbs and Garret Houts count thanks to stellar closing work by senior transfer Martin Viramontes, who picked up his team-leading third save.

Viramontes has shared the 9th inning burden with freshman Wyatt Strahan allowing both pitchers to excel.  The bullpen duo has combined to throw 22.1 innings giving up just 2 runs, while compiling a 3-0 record with 5 saves.

As Pac-12 play pushes on this weekend with a three-game set at Washington State, Frank Cruz will continue to lean on his pitching staff, which has kept the Trojans in nearly every game thanks to a 3.39 team ERA.

Strahan has yet to give up a run this season.
