USC women's golf four-time All-American Lizette Salas will make her LPGA debut this week in Arizona.  She rose out of the urban wilderness to become the model student-athlete during her Trojan career.

Her remarkable story was featured in the New York Times.

"There aren't many opportunities for girls, or if there are, they aren't taking advantage of them," Salas told the NY Times about her Azusa upbringing. "There's a different path here, one that often includes drugs, gangs and teen pregnancies. I was always sure I didn't want to fall under those statistics for young Latinas."
