Sunday Savior

USC baseball is a perfect 4-0 in Sunday games this season.  What would be a coincidence in the big leagues is a reflection of starting pitching in college, where the hurlers are matched with days of the week.

Tarpley-Akron-PC.jpgUSC freshman southpaw Stephen Tarpley has dazzled with his dominance.  He leads the starting staff with a 2.28 ERA and 34 strikeouts (23.2 innings pitched).

The neophyte is growing in confidence and experience after two no-decisions to start his career.  In his last two starts (at No. 6 UNC and vs. CSUB), he has combined to pitch 14 innings giving up just 2 earned runs on 10 hits, while striking out 18 and walking just 2.

Tarpley chose USC because he wants to lead collegiate baseball's proudest program back to Omaha.  His quest continues this weekend as the Trojans host Utah for three games to kickoff Pac-12 play.

*Given the rain in the forecast for Saturday, USC baseball will play a Friday doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.  Sunday's game is still scheduled for 1 p.m.*
