The Quote

The Trojan Family erupted when Matt Barkley and T.J. McDonald decided to put the NFL on hold to take care of some "unfinished business" at USC, but the aftershocks could be even more powerful as the young Trojans take their cues from the team leaders.

Woods-Locker-Post-UCLA-SH.jpg"Matt and T.J. set the standard," Robert Woods told USC beat reporters.  "Me and Dion [Bailey] and a lot of guys were talking: That should be the new trend, getting your degree."

The substance of that quote is not only music to the ears of Pat Haden and Lane Kiffin, but any Trojan fan that looks forward to these talented youngsters finishing what they have started.  And, it is reminiscent of the Pete Carroll dynasty, when some top players declared early, but many more like Matt Leinart, Keith Rivers, Rey Maualuga, Sedrick Ellis, Brian Cushing, Sam Baker and Lawrence Jackson stuck around.

Woods (photo by Jon SooHoo) will likely have a decision to make after this season, but it's no foregone conclusion that the record-setting wide receiver will take his talents elsewhere.

"Not a correct assumption," he said about leaving early.  "Of course I'm still focused on this year. I'm just thinking about today, getting better each day. If it's there, of course you've got to look into it."
