Water polo head coach Jovan Vavic is featured on the front page of the Los Angeles Times today. Fresh off his 10th national championship at USC, the dogmatic leader has already refocused on the No. 2 Women of Troy, which are off to a 3-1 start.
Vavic carries an imposing reputation at the pool. As he barks out commands to his student-athletes, the Eastern European import looks to weed out the weak from the warriors.
"There's this whole stigma about playing for Jovan," senior Nadia Dan told the Times. "It's supposed to be scary because he's going to break you down."
Of course, underneath it all, Vavic (photo right by LA Times) has an emotional sweet spot and an unmatched passion for USC, a school which he has faithfully served for two decades. His drive and fire provide the fuel for two of Troy's most consistent programs.
"The system here is like a machine," Dan said. "Play by play is broken down and Jovan is a perfectionist."
