USC women's basketball moved to 5-1 in the Pac-12 last night with a 92-73 win over Oregon just days after beating UCLA in Westwood 47-43. If you do the math, the Women of Troy came up a bucket short of doubling their scoring total from one game to the next, but grabbed victories in both contests regardless.
Michael Cooper will take wins in all shapes and sizes, but the mulch-faceted approach should bode well for the Trojans come tourney time when they will face unfamiliar foes with varying styles.
In the win over the Bruins, the Trojans staunch defense held UCLA to 30% shooting and forced 14 turnovers. Against the Ducks at Galen, USC buried 40% from the field and an impressive 18/21 from the free throw line.
Senior guard Briana Gilbreath was the standout performer Thursday night coming up a rebound shy of a triple-double (18 points, 11 assists and 9 rebounds).
