USC linebackers coach Joe Barry will return to Folsom Field for the first time in almost two decades Friday night, which stirs up some positive memories for the former Colorado high school hero.
"I am a legend in my own mind," Barry joked about his Fairview High School days, but in all seriousness, he was a two-time All-Colorado pick.
Barry lived near Colorado University for six years (1987-92), while his father coached the interior offensive line during the Buffaloes heyday.
"I grew up in that stadium," Barry remembered. "Boulder is a special place. I was there in their glory days when they won a national championship (1990)."
While the cold and potential snow is an issue, Boulder is a mile high, so altitude could also play a factor, but Barry is not buying it.
"Quite frankly, we haven't even brought it up," he said.
Fellow USC assistant coaches Kennedy Polamalu and Ted Gilmore coached at Colorado. The Buffs won the 1991 Orange Bowl over Notre Dame to split the national championship with Georgia Tech.
