Gauntlet Update (4/14/11)

The Trojans have an opportunity to all but clinch the Gauntlet this week as #1 men's volleyball hosts the Bruins tonight at Galen (7 p.m.) and #14 women's tennis looks to upset #6 UCLA at Marks Stadium Friday (3 p.m.).

Men's volleyball sits at 19-2 with two games to play this week before they begin the playoffs against the very same Bruins next week at Galen Center.  While UCLA packs a great volleyball tradition, USC head coach Bill Ferguson is an impressive 7-2 against the legendary Bruins' leader Al Scates.

If men's volleyball takes care of business tonight, the women's tennis team could bank 2.5 more Gauntlet points Friday by knocking off the Bruins in their regular season finale.

Current Gauntlet standings: USC 52.5, UCLA 25

Technically, the Trojans need 57.5 points to clinch the trophy, which they could gain by beating the Bruins in both sports this week.  However, it won't be officially over because postseason matchups change the point equation.

Nevertheless, USC is on its way to a fourth straight Gauntlet and we'd love your support this week to see off the Bruins!

Here's a call to arms from women's tennis stars Maria Sanchez and Ali Ramos...
