USC tennis stars Maria Sanchez and Steve Johnson are the #1 players in the nation for their respective genders, which is the first time in NCAA history that one school claimed the top players simultaneously, according to the ITA's records.

sanchez serve.JPGBoth All-Americans, Sanchez and Johnson have combined for a ridiculous 60-5 record this season.

As a caveat, the ITA only started keeping weekly individual rankings in 2004-05, but no school has ever boasted the best male and female players at any time since then or ever in the year end ballot.

In the fall, Sanchez became the first Trojan to win the ITA National Indoor Singles Championship since 1986 (Caroline Kuhlman).  Meanwhile, Johnson is riding a 17-match win streak.

The Trojan aces individual success has also led to team triumph as Johnson was a key cog in the men's last two national championships as well as this year's #2 ranked squad.

Sanchez is the anchor for the #14 women's team coming off a road sweep in the Northwest.

Johnson and his teammates host the Arizona Wildcats this Saturday afternoon at Marks Stadium.
