Trojan Invitational

Here's an interesting note from the sports information department about Saturday's Trojan Invitational track meet:

Twenty-five track and field athletes from Japan's Nippon Sport Science University--who left their country just 2 days after the devastating 9.0 earthquake and subsequent tsunami--will compete in Saturday's (March 19) Trojan Invitational track meet at USC's Loker Stadium.  The meet begins at 9 a.m.

The 25 NSSU athletes (19 men, 6 women) departed from Tokyo on March 13 for 2 weeks of training and competing in Southern California.

The Trojan Invitational will feature athletes from USC, Washington State, Fresno State, UC Santa Barbara, Cal State Fullerton, Cal State Los Angeles, Cal State Dominguez Hills, Cal State Bakersfield, Cal Poly Pomona, Occidental, La Verne, Augsburg and Williams, along with NSSU.

NSSU, founded in 1891, has produced athletes who have won 108 Olympic medals (including 33 gold) since the 1928 Amsterdam Games.
