USC senior Marcus Simmons was named the Pac-10's Defensive Player of the Year today, while junior leader Nikola Vucevic earned All-Pac-10 First Team.

PG Maurice Jones was recognized on the All-Freshman team.

Simmons-D.jpg"He is the best one-on-one defender in the whole country," head coach Kevin O'Neill said earlier this season about Simmons (photo right), who is the first Trojan to win the award since Taj Gibson.

As for Vucevic, he has been the offensive centerpiece all season.  He finished third in the league in scoring (17.7 ppg) despite constant double teams, while leading the conference in rebounding (10.3 rpg).

Jones carried as much responsibility as any freshman in the Pac-10 this year.  Before Jio Fontan joined the team, he was the starting point guard playing nearly 40 minutes per game.

Despite the burden on his undersized frame, MoJo finished third in the league in steals (2.1 spg) and led all Pac-10 freshmen in assists (3.3 apg).

Former USC commit Derrick Williams was named Pac-10 Player of the Year.
