Trojan Transfers

USC wide receiver Brice Butler announced yesterday that he intends to transfer.

"Always will be a part of Trojan nation.  No regrets, I just gotta go play [football], which isn't happening here.  I love y'all.  Always will," Butler said via his Twitter page.

Butler made 29 catches the last two seasons, including three touchdowns.

Butler will likely transfer to a Football Championship Subdivision school, according to ESPNLA's Pedro Moura, who spoke with him directly.

He is the third USC player to transfer from the football program this offseason.  Hebron "Loni" Fangupo will finish his career at BYU and TE Blake Ayles announced recently that he is headed to Miami (FL).

Fangupo and Ayles were allowed free transfer without sitting out a year under the NCAA imposed sanctions.  Butler will have to skip a season if he chooses to transfer to another FBS school.

Correction - if he transfers to an FCS school, he would NOT have skip a season.

Butler made a premature decision. Since he's a RS freshman he could have chose to stay around and battle for the other starting position which he had the upper hand in due to his experience. If it didn't work out as a starter he could then have transferred after the 2011 season to any school using the Sanction Pass scott-free transfer rules.

With an OL that may be depleted this year, Lane may have serious thoughts on moving to more spread offense type of plays and that would have opened up more room for 3 starting WRs.

I just think Bryce made a decision too quickly. I suppose the sanctions could get reduced and the transfer rule may be an area the NCAA was overzealous in (you think?) and could pull back on effectively ruining this theory I have but still...he should have gone one more year. He had a very good chance to start.

c-ya.

correction- He was a RS Sophomore but that wouldnt change my proposed path for Bryce.
