Each week, we switch the emphasis to the left side of the hyphen and focus on a USC scholar athlete.
Name: Briana Gilbreath
Sport: Women's Basketball
Class: Junior
Major: Human Performance (Minor in Health Promotion and Nutrition)
GPA: 3.2
Jordan Moore (JM): You are a Texas girl. At 6'1", are you living proof that everything is bigger in Texas?
Briana Gilbreath (BG): Most definitely! Everything is bigger in Texas, especially the food! Huge portions, something I miss everyday!
JM: You are minoring in Health Promotions and Nutrition. Does that mean Texas BBQ is not on the diet plan?
BG: I might not suggest this for anyone else, but as for me, it is most definitely in my diet plan, especially when I go home.
JM: You get to play everyday now with your sister Stefanie. As kids, were you competitive or did you always play on the same team and beat everybody else?
BG: We were competitive for a few years, but she would always beat me, so I decided if I couldn't beat her, I might as well join her. That's when we started playing together and beating everyone else!
JM: You were the Vice President of "Athletes Pressing Beyond Excellence," which is about expanding your horizons beyond athletics. What are some fun things that you have enjoyed around campus that you never would have before?
BG: I have enjoyed plays held at Bing Theater, going to see speakers such as Anna Deavere Smith (photo right) and I was a delegate for the Presidential Inauguration.
JM: Another focus of APBE is to prepare you for life after your athletic career. If you could not be an athlete, what would you want to do for a living?
BG: I would love to be a sports nutritionist and either own my own business or work for a professional or collegiate team.
JM: Greatest USC women's basketball player ever: Cheryl Miller or Lisa Leslie?
BG: Wow, well they are two different players. They are both great and they both left their marks on SC, but Cheryl does have two NCAA rings J.
JM: Does Michael Cooper ever make you watch old Lakers' videos?
BG: He used to until we pulled up a video of him getting posterized by Dr. J (Julius Erving)!
JM: I heard that one of the women's volleyball players wears a size 13 men's shoe. Who rocks the biggest shoes on the women's basketball team?
BG: I have no idea, maybe Jacki Gemelos with a 12.5.
JM: Who would you like to play one-on-one with on the men's basketball team?
BG: I don't know about any of the players, but I have seen coach KO working out and I feel like he might put up a good fight.
JM: Big tournament this weekend (Women of Troy Basketball Tournament)! If the Trojan fans pack Galen Center, do you promise to put on an entertaining show?
BG: Yes! We are a fun team to watch, we bring a lot of energy and have a team full of talent. We are a sight to see!
JM: Can I get a guaranteed double-double?
BG: I will try my hardest, but can't guarantee it... Don't be surprised if it happens!
