- NAU could be Rider all over again. They will run the court and bomb threes if the Trojans are looking ahead to the showdown with Kansas or back at their big win over Texas. "We went through that already against Rider after we beat a good Santa Clara team, so I think everybody's mind is focused on Saturday," senior captain Marcus Simmons said.
- Simmons has been labeled USC's defensive-stopper and he added to his reputation against Texas by holding 'Horns superstar Jordan Hamilton to 12 points on 4/13 shooting. Northern Arizona has a legitimate go-to scorer in Cameron Jones, who declared for the NBA Draft temporarily last year. "KO (Kevin O'Neill) tells me what kind of player they are and how many points they average," Simmons described his preparation. "And then, I'm a competitor, so my job is to keep them from getting to their average and that's what I'm going to do."
- This will be USC's last game without junior guard Jio Fontan, who is eligible to play against Kansas next Saturday. The Fordham transfer is expected to start at shooting guard, which means either Bryce Jones or Simmons is headed to the bench. "If I'm the 6th man or Bryce is the 6th man, we both agreed that we will do whatever it takes to help the team win."
- Freshman Bryce Jones rolled his ankle in practice today, but he expects to be ready for Saturday. Here's a chance to meet the Taft Woodland Hills product...
